tested STEP5 HF only, couldn't try STEP5 due to time shortage.

- dungeon lighting is there, if STEP5 has darker dungeons I could still take them, I like my vision to be narrowed down to playing limits when in caves, but I can understand that most people wouldn't appreciate that.
For me the darker the better, I recon STEP5 HF can be a good compromise to meet everyone's liking. I will take an extreme darkness secondary option in the final anytime.

- torches look quite fine for me, no need for nitpicking on that as far as I'm concerned

- lighting conditions still look fantastic, never had to say much about it

- I noticed sunglare has changed. True or not? No problem with that either

- Noticed excessively bright snow outside and exagerately bright ice inside a cave (Yngol Barrow)

- DOF. I think it looks really sweet right now, the mountains south of Windhelm had some details I didn't notice before. It was like the sun was glittering on every cornice, making rock detail stick out and giving a gorgeous look to the mountains themselves. Nice, very nice.
BUT, there is one MAJOR gripe for me. I noticed this on the aforementioned mountains and also looking west outside of Whiterun (these are both well known troubled areas for the problem I'm about to describe): flickering on distant mountains has gotten MUCH MUCH worse. I could take it before, now it's simply unbearable. Hope this can be looked into, and it's too bad because I really like how DOF looks right now, but I'm afraid it's related. Was never that bad before. Sorry I didn't have time to test without the mod, I'm pretty sure it's not as pronounced on Vanilla, though. Wasn't surely there in version 1.6

Keep up the great job and thanks for the betas!

Same problem, when I install the mod my nvidia 540M disapears from the launcher and only the integrated card displays in the launcher. The dedicated card appears again if I uninstall RCRN. Anyone know a fix for this?

Must love the Ninja updating! :-D
Glad to read the release notes for STEP5, can't wait to try it out later (I need a dark room!).
Will install and report later tonight.

p.s. the sun shimmering on snowy roofs at 1:00 pm atop the King's Palace in Windhelm was WONDERFUL!
Got that midday clear skies winter sun feeling PRRRfect!

Agree on static lights with the previous post.

I find STEP2 torches perfect, let's not forget monitor calibration is different for everyone, infact I would like the dungeons even a bit darker.

Wish we could have an option for really dark dungeons. Personally I think they are unbalanced with the nights. Going inside a cave during the night and seeing it has more light than outside is a big immersion breaker imo.

That said, I wouldn't make nights lighter, I would darken dungeons instead.

I like to have pitch-black areas inside caves (like irl).
Lights must have a drawing effect, attracting you toward them in order to escape the frightening surrounding darkness. Take this as absolutely personal preference.
Let me only add that my monitor is already calibrated toward a dark gamma.

I found the DOF outside Windhelm a bit overdone (mountains to the south). It looked more ok outside Whiterun, though.

Looked through a whole in a cave and saw it was night outside. Fantastic.

I'd like to thank the author as well for letting us test the beta.

Mine is intended as 100% constructive criticism. I felt in love with this mod from the first day I tried it.

So, to sum it up, my personal tweaking on STEP2 would be:

- even darker dungeons with more contrast (dim light conditions and occasional light sources in a cave call for greater contrast irl)
- reduced DOF

exterior saturation and contrast perfect, as usual.

keep it up!

Comments about 1.99 Beta 2:

- Torches look way better, but I still feel that the light should be a bit warmer than it currently is.
Picture: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/837/screenshot8112.png/

- Daytime is waaay too bright everything looks shiny and white

regarding the torches, I'd say something in between version 1.6 and the current beta 1.99 - STEP 1 would look perfect to me.

I'm an absolute fan of this mod, the one and only realistic mod wiping all others away with a FUS-RO-DAH. I can truly tell the time of the day just by looking at lighting conditions.

Would like to share considerations on the beta.

I'll start by saying that I had a ctd outside Windhelm, can't be 100% sure it's mod related, but after re-installing version 1.6 the problem was seemingly solved.

About the beta:

- night seems fine, personally I like dungeons to be as dark as they can be, so I wouldnt mind dimmer interiors.

- got up in Windhelm at six o' clock in the morning and it was excessively bright compared to 1.6. Looked more like noon.

- mountains in the distance were almost unnoticeable, as they were covered in a bluish hue which made them almost undistinguishable from the sky. Looked wrong.

- snow was waaay too bright!!!

- contrast looked perfect for my standards. I lile dramatic environments.

- saturation (or de-saturation) is spot-on. This is the strongpoint of the mod, imo, and makes it stand out over the multitude of obscene color palettes.

- torches overly bright, cold and with excessive range. I think the light they emit should be much dimmer, warmer and definitely reach less far away from the player.

hope this helps, I absolutely cannot play Skyrim anymore without this mod and I can't wait to see the final version! Keep up the excellent work!

Torches are way too bright. This is very noticeable in cities with static guards or where guards path over each other. Checkout the entrance in Whiterun and Dragonsreach. I am also positive the light shouldn't be pure white. Most period Oil torches and lamps used some sort of vegetable or mineral oil which would give of a slight yellow light on surfaces they interact with. Check out videos from youtube.
